Dear Parents,

‘20 is Plenty’ Campaign

You may have seen these new signs on the roads surrounding the school site. This is a result of the views that families and local residents gave in our Travel Plan Questionnaire. As part of our ongoing campaign to make the walk to and from school safer for all the Governors of both Elson Infant and Junior Schools have agreed to be involved in this Hampshire County Council voluntary initiative. We are the first school in Gosport to use these signs. The idea is to encourage motorists to drive more slowly in the roads near to school during start and finish times. There are 10 signs altogether and the cost of these has been split between the schools. HSBC Bank has provided sponsorship for the Infant signs and the Junior school are seeking a similar sponsor for £250 to cover the cost.  I hope that all parents will embrace and support our campaign by taking the lead and driving at 20mph near the school. Please also spread the word with friends and family so that they are aware of the importance of driving more slowly outside school. If we succeed in educating drivers or riders outside school, then this is a success as that person travelling at 20 mph will have a knock on effect to the other motorists behind.

Yours sincerely,
