Homework Policy
The Department for Education and Skills has recommended that children in Years 1 and 2 should spend about one hour per week on homework. At
Aims:
· to provide opportunities for parents and children to enjoy working and learning together.
· to develop the home/school partnership by providing opportunities for parents, pupils and school to work together.
· to support the work in school through reinforcement and extension.
· to ensure that parents are clear on their involvement and understand the expectations for themselves and the pupils.
· to ensure that the needs of individuals are met.
We ask parents to:
· regularly share a book with your child.
· support your child with IMPACT maths activities each fortnight.
· encourage your child to complete the fortnightly “Finding Out” activities.
· support your child with researching information or resources to enhance their current class topic.
· encourage your child to be aware of the weekly reading or writing targets e.g. spellings, “pot words” etc.
· support your child with any specific targets identified by the school.
· attend any curriculum workshop evenings or briefings with your child to share in their learning.
· support your child with specific work programmes such as ELS in Years 1 and 2.
The School will:
· plan suitable tasks and activities for parents and children to enjoy, and work on together.
· value and reward the efforts made to complete homework.
· acknowledge or respond to comments in the comment book/Impact diary.
· make expectations clear for the level of involvement and support from the parent.
· vary the activities to maintain enthusiasm and interest; IMPACT maths, “Finding Out”, words of the week, etc.
· set tasks or activities which will support school work through reinforcement or extension.
The Governors will:
· regularly monitor the effectiveness of the policy by random sampling of activities, discussion with children, discussion with parents and response rates in each year group/ class.
